13 Delhi Metro stations shut

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Friday closed the gates of 13 metro stations, including the busy Rajiv Chowk, to restrict the movement of anti-CAA agitators in the national capital, which has been witnessing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

"Entry and exit gates of Rajiv Chowk, Pragati Maidan and Khan Market are closed. Interchange facility is available at Rajiv Chowk," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said. Earlier, Johri Enclave, Shiv Vihar and Dilshad Garden stations were closed.

"Of the 285 stations, Chawri Bazar, Lal Quila, Jama Masjid and Delhi Gate on violet line, Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur on pink line and Jamia Millia Islamia on magenta line are closed as per instructions of security agencies. Rest of the metro network is operating as per schedule," the DMRC had tweeted.

"Entry and exit gates of Mandi House and Janpath are closed. Interchange facility is available at Mandi House," the account added.

In all, 13 metro stations are closed.

Internet services shut down in major cities in Uttar Pradesh, parts of West Bengal and Karnataka

In an unprecedented clampdown, internet services were suspended across major cities in Uttar Pradesh and a few sensitive ones in West Bengal and Karnataka as central and state governments doubled down on efforts to check the spread of rage against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Internet access over mobile phones was suspended in major towns in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Agra, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, Mathura, Meerut, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Bareli, Firozadad, Pilibhit, Rampur, Saharanpur, Shamli, Sambhal, Amroha, Mau, Azamgarh and Sultanpur following explicit state government orders, telecom industry officials said.

Broadband internet services were also suspended in some cities, including Lucknow and Ghaziabad.

One death reported in Firozabad, says report

News18 reported that one person has died in the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad on Friday. Protests against the contentious law turned violent on Friday as demonstrators pelted stones and police personnel resorted to tear gas shells and lathi-charge in several districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Internet being shut down covertly in Delhi, say researchers

Researchers with a collective tracking internet censorship, Internet Democracy, on Friday tweeted that preliminary tests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar showed that the internet shutdowns during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act were being done covertly.

"There’s not just blocking but also throttling (slowing down) of internet. Documentation from the ground up is important. Differences across network providers, protest venues, times help us understand details of censorship & interference, get clues about methods and equipment used," the researcher said.

Internet services snapped in Bulandshahr 

Internet services were suspended in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district from 3 pm on Friday in view of anti-citizenship law protests. The order has been issued to contain the spread of rumours and misinformation on social media, District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI. The district administration move comes after violence erupted during anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests in the district, with incidents of stone pelting and firing being reported.

"In order to maintain law and order and communal harmony, all mobile internet services are being suspended from 3 pm on December 20 in entire Bulandshahr. Internet-related loop lines and lease lines too shall remain suspended," he stated in an order.

Gyanesh added, "There has been no violence for the last 36-40 hours. No weapon was used. Only tear gas was used to control crowd."

Jamia, AMU under siege, counsels tell SC bench as hearing commences

As the Supreme Court Bench, comprising CJI SA Bobde and Justices BR Gavai and Suryakant, began hearing the pleas against the protests at the Jamia Millia Islamia, seeking that FIRs not be filed in the case and action be taken against the Delhi Police.

Counsel tells the Bench that with the passage of the amended Act, discontent was seen across the country. "This Act was tried to be painted as Anti Muslims and the first protest was sparked in the North East. There is a siege in Jamia and AMU and the right to peaceful protest should be upheld," the counsels submitted.

Bobde responded by saying that each of the aforementioned incidents happened in different places and "different steps have been taken by different authorities".

Go to appropriate court for establishing facts, says CJI

Delhi-based lawyer Mehmood Pracha says before the Bench that in the absence of the Supreme Court's intervention, the situation "will spiral further", even though incidents of violence have stopped.

When Pracha fails to inform the Bench about the number of buses burnt in Delhi, CJI Bobde says, "You are not aware of facts and we are not a Court of establishing facts."

FIRs cannot be filed against students if you want peace, argues Indira Jaising

Senior counsel Indira Jaising begins her submissions, bringing the Court's attention to the relief sought in the petition filed by Vaibhav Mishra and others. "FIRs are being filed against students across the country. My request is only this that let the law take its own course, but please pass an order," she urged the Bench.

She argued that if peace is to be maintained, FIRs cannot be filed innocent students. She said that relief is granted through peace measures, to which CJI Bobde says, "If a police officer sees that some stones are being pelted, should an FIR not be filed?"

Jaising reiterated her plea of no coercive action being taken against students.

Indira Jaising seeks free humanitarian medical aid for those injured in protests

Jaising says that universities are private property and police can enter campuses only after the Vice-Chancellor's authorisation. She further said that she seeks free medical aid for those injured in protests. "(Colin) Gonsalves will tell you how one of his own interns lost eyesight and there are people who have broken bones. It is the duty of the medical services to provide free medical aid in emergency situations," she submitted.

She also questioned where the students are supposed to go now that the university has suddenly been shut before the scheduled date.

AMU is in a disturbing state, students have suffered injuries, says Colin Gonsalves

Beginning his submission, senior counsel Colin Gonsalves says that an impression has been tried to be created that the protesting students are rioters. The Bench refuses to let Gonsalves read out the Jamia Vice Chancellor's statement on the protest published in a newspaper.

Gonsalves continues with his submissions, saying that Jamia is now in a better state, but AMU is in a disturbing state, with several students sustaining severe injuries. He urges the bench to send a fact-finding committee to Aligarh, which may ensure that the torture of students ends.

Bobde assures him that some action will be taken, but cannot assure that a retired Judge will be sent.

67 persons sustained injuries, no student arrested, submits S-G Tushar Mehta

Court asks Solicitor General Tushar Mehta about the two concerns - first, students being arrested without notice to authorities and second, no medical attention being given to students.
 

In response, Mehta submits that 67 persons, including students and other miscreants, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. Several police personnel also sustained injuries. He added that no students were arrested or lodged in jail.
 

CJI Bobde questions him about the claim that there are hospitalised students who are not getting attention. Mehta says that the Delhi Police had to make use of tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and one of the protesters picked up the shell and tried to throw it back when it exploded and that is why they sustained injuries.

SC turns down petitions in Jamia, AMU protests, directs parties to approach high courts

The Bench opines that it is not feasible to appoint one committee to look into the protests, given the nature of the matter and dispute and the vast area over which the matter is spread.

Supreme Court directs the petitioners to approach the High Courts within whose jurisdiction the incidents have occurred. The Supreme Court says that the High Court may appoint former judges of the Supreme Court to conduct inquiry after hearing the Union of India and the concerned state government.

Centre stopped railway services in Bengal over one or two minor incidents: Mamata

Terming the ongoing violence and arson in the state over the citizenship law as a "few minor incidents", West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said just because the BJP has requisite numbers in Parliament, it cannot bully the states into enforcing the law. 

Banerjee was leading a protest march from Jadavpur to Jadu Babu's Bazar, against Citizenship Amendment Act. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan were also present in the protest march. 

Barbaric' beatings in Jamia by police, allege activists, students

"Barbaric" beatings, abuse and humiliation were perpetrated on students by the police during their crackdown on those protesting against the citizenship law on Sunday in Jamia Millia Islamia, alleged injured students and activists on Tuesday. 

For Mohammad Mustafa, an MBA student in Jamia, who recalled the "beatings" he received at the hands of the police said that he was studying in the library along with 25 others, including around 10-12 girls. "I was beaten mercilessly and I fell unconscious. I was taken to New Friends Colony police station, they made us sit on the cold floor. I was not given any treatment although I felt like I was going to die," Mustafa alleged as he spoke to the media. 

 

 

Many in the group alleged that the most "barbaric" attack was in the library of the varsity in which most students were injured. They alleged that the police used brutal force on them.

By (Rajnish Kumar): I book my air ticket on dated 06-12-2019 from New Delhi to Port Blair (PNR is Y6B7Q) for dated 17 Jan 2020 of Air India airline (departure timing is 6.35am)from website i.e. Clear trip. But they have canceled my air ticket and same has been confirm me through email on dated 07.12.2019 and also talk with their consultant namely Paritksha suryavanshi this evening, their consultant Said that u can book another ticket and the refund of ur ticket will be deposited to your account as soon as possible. After your confirmation and cancelation of ticket I book my ticket from Make My Trip through different PNR number i.e. ZE088. Now on dated 7-12-2019 clear trip company employee namely Mr rohit is claiming that he or cleartrip has confirm your booking, so he or cleartrip will not refund my money. This is totally irresponsible behavior and same has harassing me very much.. I politely requested them that refund my money till yesterday otherwise I have to go to consumer or any other court and same will also be highlighted of social media.I again request to you kindly refund my money in my account .i request to you kindly take action against them and refund my money.

Priyanka Reddy Case, The Brutal Rape and Murder that Left "Hyderabad horror"

The four rapists and murderers of the 26-year-old Hyderabad veterinary doctor were killed in an encounter this morning by the police. It is reported by the Telugu media that the cops had taken the men to the murder site to reconstruct the crime when they turned violent and tried to escape after attacking the officials. The news has been welcomed by social media users as justice has been meted out to the victim.

Last Wednesday the doctor had gone to a toll plaza in Shamshabad to get her two-wheelers when the four men on Mohammad Areef (driver), Jollu Naveen (cleaner), Chennakeshavulu (cleaner) and Jollu Shiva (driver) abducted, gang raped and then burnt her body at a remote location. There was widespread demand from all sections of the society including parliamentarians to give speedy capital punishment to the accused. One of the men's mother said on media that her son too should be burnt alive like how he murdered the victim. Hyderabad: The police have killed the four accused of doctor gang rape and murder in Hyderabad in an encounter. This encounter took place when the police took the accused on NH-44 to get the crime scene recaptured. According to the police, the four accused tried to escape from the spot. DCP Shamsabad Prakash Reddy told that the Cyberabad police had taken the accused to the crime scene for scene reconstruction. The accused snatched arms from the police and opened fire on them. The police fired on the accused in self-defense, in which the accused died. 

It is worth mentioning that on the intervening night of November 27-28, the incident of generosity with the doctor was carried out in Hyderabad.

On the night of 27 November, the female doctor had a scooty puncture. While she was parking Scooty, only then did the four poor people commit the act of cruelty. He had called his sister to explain the situation but after that the doctor's phone had stopped.

After being kidnapped, the four accused raped the doctor and strangled him to death. After this, the body of the rape victim was burnt with petrol. After this incident of Hyderabad rape and murder, while there is anger in the whole country, there is an echo of this matter in Parliament.

Four accused tried to escape 

Explain that in the case of rape and murder of an animal doctor in Hyderabad's Shadnagar, the four accused Shiva, Naveen, Keshavulu and Mohammad Arif were placed in police remand. It is being told that the police took the four under investigation to the flyover where they set the victim on fire. The crime scene was being recast there. Meanwhile, all four tried to run away. On this, the police reacted and opened fire and heaped the four into the encounter.

Regarding the encounter, Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said that all the accused were killed in a police encounter in Chandanapalli, Shadnagar between 3 am and 6 am. He has reached the spot and further details will be revealed. The father of the victim of the encounter of the accused thanked the police. He said that the soul of my dead daughter will now find peace.

On November 27 the veterinarian who was on her way home after a medical check-up at Gachibowli was abducted near Tondupally toll gate of the Outer Ring Road near RGI Airport. Later, her charred body was found at the underpass near Chatanpalli.

The Cyberabad police are yet to make an official announcement on how the encounter took place. Senior police officials said they would announce details soon. Cyberabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar is at the spot.

According to police sources, the exchange of fire took place between 3.30 a.m. and 5 a.m.

The accused killed in the encounter are Md Arif (26), the lorry driver and Jollu Naveen, Jollu Shiva and Ch Chennakeshavulu, all 20 years of age.
